The Kemist – Roulette

The Kemist - Roulette - Cover

Jamaica born/Miami based artist, producer and DJ, The Kemist drops the energetic new single “Roulette” today via 21 Entertainment/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada. Produced by Nevada (whose single “the mack” has over 250M streams on Spotify), the upbeat summer track was inspired by the traditional Afro-Caribbean dance referred to as “whining” – where the objective is to rotate your waist in a circle while keeping the rest of your body still.

On the new single, The Kemist notes: “Since we’re confined to home, “Roulette” is the perfect song as it inspires us to get active and dance while highlighting my love for the females.”

“Roulette” arrives as follow up to the latest single “We Made It” (February 2020), and the previously released Mayhem 7.0 (2019), which landed on the Shazam Canada Top 100, and reached #125 on Shazam Global 200. “Roulette” continues to showcase the distinct sound and style The Kemist is known for, artfully fusing elements of reggae, dancehall, electronic, trap, and pop music into a catchy and combustible concoction of his own.

Born in Kingston Jamaica, Errol “Kemar” Thompson aka The Kemist grew up around reggae royalty. His mother is the Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths, and his father, Errol Thompson Sr., was a musician and popular radio personality. At the tender age of 3, The Kemist got his 1st moment in the spotlight sharing the stage with Reggae legend Bob Marley. The charismatic artist was destined to be a star as he grew up touring the world as a music director/musician in his mom’s band. In 2018, he signed to 21 Entertainment in partnership with Republic Records and kicked off his next chapter with the Body Treatment EP. Its lead single “Body Can’t Lie” [feat. Nyanda of Brick & Lace] hinges on a flavorful and fiery island beat that builds towards a hypnotic hook as sexy as it is slick.

The Kemist is Jamaica’s hottest new triple threat with over 50 million online streams to date and support from industry heavyweights such as Sean Paul, Diplo, Zedd and Major Lazer.

Major Lazer - King of the Party (feat. Mr.Killa)

Major Lazer, the internationally renowned EDM trio has released an EP “Soca Storm” with Mr Killa which features the reigning International Soca Monarch on two songs including the title track “Soca Storm” and “King of the Party”. The EP is not only Major Lazer’s first release of the year but also their first exclusively soca EP or album. “It’s a big deal, soca is poised to be a broader bigger thing and we are working hard to push the culture forward,” explained Major Lazer’s Walshy Fire just days after winning his first Grammy. “Mr Killa is just one of those incredible artists bringing new sounds and new energy to the forefront and he’s an important part of what we’re doing.”

“Soca Storm” is also Mr Killa’s first release of the year following a historic 2019 during which he became the first non-Trinidadian to win the International Soca Monarch competition. “King of the Party” was recorded in 2019 during a session with Major Lazer in New York. “This has been the anthem that starts all our shows” said Walshy, “as soon as you hear the horns, the place goes crazy! Now it’s a blessing to be able to drop this song with Mr Killa just in time for the Carnival season.”

Widely considered as one of the best live performers in the Caribbean, Mr Killa says the “Soca Storm EP” is the first of several international collaborations he’s recorded recently. In addition to expanding his catalog, he’s also extended his entrepreneurial and philanthropic interests by realizing a life-long dream of launching a state-of-the-art multimedia center and radio station in his hometown of Gouyave, Grenada and launching a song-writing competition to nurture future talent in the Spice Island.

“It’s a great pleasure to work with Major Lazer as they are one of the most influential forces in music Globally” said Mr Killa of the collaboration.  Killa is intensely focused on expanding the genre’s reach beyond the Caribbean diaspora. “I used to dream of this day and now that it’s here I’m beyond excited as this is a massive platform not just for me as a soca artist, but for the genre. I feel like this is the beginning of a new chapter and I can’t wait to see what is ahead, let’s go!”

Alicai Harley – Tek It To Dem

Alicai Harley - Tek It To Dem
Alicai Harley is back and stunning us with her latest track and accompanying visuals for ‘Tek It To Dem’. Set in Tivoli Gardens, in Alicai’s hometown of Kingston, Jamaica – the video takes us on a journey across the vibrant region, a theme often seen in Harley’srecent visuals. As the track progresses, we see Alicai performing on a rooftop overlooking the city, dripping in a gold look, and surround by locals – all whilst looking flawless.

Originally, the track was a freestyle which Alicai posted on her socials, however an explosive reaction led to her officially recording the song. The release of ‘Tek It To Dem’also coincides with her mother’s birthday. In ‘Tek It To Dem’ Alicai pays homage to her beloved mother Vanny, making several references about her during the track including, “Mi mummy raised a queen” and “Vanny’s pickney”. This track allows Harley to appreciate the person who made her who she is today.

'Tek It To Dem' literally means ‘Go For It,’ ‘Give It To Dem,’ ‘Be Great’ – the song is me expressing my belief in God’s timing. It was only right that I went back home to Jamaica to  shoot the video as it’s had such a big influence on my sound” says Alicai.
