Intence Releases Debut Album VOYAGE

Jamaican artist Intence released his debut album, VOYAGE, on January 1 via VP Records.
The sixteen-track project culminates a New Year’s Day tradition he began in 2018, kicking off each year with a new release for his fans.

VOYAGE centers on the environment that shaped him in the Tavern district of Papine, a gritty community on the eastern edge of Kingston where opportunity is limited and daily life can be unpredictable. Across the project, Intence focuses on survival, ambition, and the influence of early experience, returning to themes that have defined much of his work. The album includes the previously released singles “LESSON,” “B.P.P.E.,” and “LIKE U,” alongside new collaborations with Afrobeats upstart Bad Boy Timz and Reggae trailblazers Tarrus Riley and Jah Cure.

The release follows his 2025 EP Sólo Chicas, as well as earlier releases including the Public Enemy No. 1 mixtape and the Wounded EP.

Intence’s catalog has drawn attention across the music press. REVOLT spotlighted him as part of a group of artists helping define dancehall’s current direction, while Billboard highlighted his releases in its monthly roundup of rising reggae and dancehall tracks. Jody Rosen of The New York Times described his single “Yahoo Boyz” as “the biggest dancehall smash of 2021.”

VOYAGE is available now on all digital streaming platforms.

BIO

Tashawn “Intence” Gabbidon boasts one of the most distinctive voices in modern dancehall – and the drive to push it to its limits. Born in Kingston and raised in Tavern, a gritty district on the city’s eastern edge, he grew up surrounded by music through his father, Stephen “Fada Axe” Gabbidon, a sound system owner and artist. That early exposure gave him both the inspiration and the work ethic to carve his own path, releasing music at a relentless pace and bending his vocals to match the experiments of his producers.

His profile began to rise in 2017 with “Jett Life,” followed by a steady run of hits like “Talker,” “Seh Dem Real,” “Be Careful,” and the 2019 breakthrough “Go Hard.”

Songs such as “Yahoo Boyz,” “Yeng,” “Heaven Passport,” “Clutcha,” and “NEW GEAR” cemented him as one of Jamaica’s most exciting young artists, praised by the NYTimes and embraced by stars like Nicki Minaj and Burna Boy. He’s animated stages from Reggae Sumfest to London’s O2 indigo and last year sold out his first U.S. headliner at Amazura in Queens.

In 2025, Intence returned with Sólo Chicas, a six-track EP released on August 8 on VP Records. Produced mainly by his father under the Nuh Brakes Recordz imprint, the project leans into themes of desire, heartbreak, and connection, building on the energy of his 2023 hit “SHH.” It set the stage for his long-awaited debut album, VOYAGE, due January 1, which pairs adventurous flows with polished production on singles like “LESSON,” “BPPE” and “LIKE U,” further cementing his place as a defining voice in modern dancehall.
