Inspired by the unstoppable energy of Caribbean parties and the spirit of resilience, the single invites listeners to let go, wind their waist, and feel the music in their soul.
“My Jamaican roots are the heartbeat of my sound,” says J8. “I grew up surrounded by music. My late grandfather, Oscar Marcus Johnson, ran Royal Zion Highness radio station, a home for reggae and roots that kept the culture alive and real. His voice, his legacy, still pushes me every day.”
Music runs even deeper through his blood. On his mother’s side, J8 comes from a lineage of country, jazz and swing musicians. “Whether it’s country or dancehall, soul or sound system culture – music’s always been in the family. It’s in my DNA.”
Yet, despite his background, the road hasn’t been easy. “People often only see the final product – the stage, the song. But being an artist is hard work, late nights, being misunderstood, and having to believe in yourself when others don’t. That’s what fuels me.”
With ‘Turn n Twist’ J8 sets his sights high. “I dream of performing on stages packed with fans, hearing them sing every lyric, dance to every beat. I don’t just want success – I want to leave a legacy.”
