There is no better compliment an artist can give than to cover a nostalgic song. Wayne Marshall, teaming with Jeremy Harding, covers the classic “Lots of Sign” originally performed by Tenor Saw in 1985.
Re-created especially for the Dancehall Anthems compilation project, the track holds evocative value for being a hit record at the time of its original release. Sound System operators and Radio presenters deemed the song an instantaneous classic which preserved its future value. Today Wayne Marshall brings the track back to the fore adding his stand-out voice which compliments Harding’s enhanced sound.
When asked about re-introducing this track to the Reggae landscape and the attraction it holds for younger audiences, Jeremy Harding said “this is a very well executed refresh of a Dancehall classic. Tenor Saw is a challenging artist to emulate so Wayne Marshall did a really good job of being inspired by the soulfulness of the record and putting his own unique brand of soul on it.”
Feedback to the project indicates that fans appreciate the direction Jeremy and the artists have taken the genres golden treasures. “Mad Kings” by King of the Dancehall Beenie Man, was a re-take on King Yellowman’s “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng” and “Nice Up The Dance” by Kabaka Pyramid is a re-take on the classic 1979 song of the same name by Michigan and Smiley.
Dancehall Anthems is a collection of new recordings of classic reggae and dancehall songs that span from the 1960’s to 1990’s otherwise known as the golden era. Dancehall Anthems features Kabaka Pyramid, Sean Paul, Beenie Man, Agent Sasco, Wayne Marshall, Runkus, Blvk H3ro, Bugle, and Royal Blu among others, taking on classic material from Yellowman, Michigan & Smiley, Ken Boothe, Tenor Saw, Papa San, Louie Culture, et al. The first track from the album was Beenie Man’s “Mad Kings” which was a take on Yellowman’s “Zungguzungguguzungguzeng.”
In addition to “Who Am I,” Jeremy Harding is known for Mr. Vegas’s “Nike Air” and Sean Paul’s “Infiltrate” (all on the Playground Riddim); and Elephant Man’s “Log On” and Tanto Metro and Devonte’s “Give It To Her” (both on the Liquid Riddim). Harding was Sean Paul’s manager through the apex of his career and produced three tracks on the platinum Dutty Rock album, the biggest selling title in VP Records’ history. More recently Harding produced “Heaven” for Jah9, found on her Note To Self album.

Wildly talented, heavily streamed, yet still in the throes of international discovery, Jamai-ca’s musical sensation Vershon releases new single ‘Reality’ featuring the UK’s front run-ner in Rap, Chip.
Previously named as BBC Radio 1Xtra’s ‘Hot For 2016’ artists alongside J Hus, Kehlani and Mabel, Vershon made his first chink in the armour of global breakthrough with his hit single ‘Inna Real Life’. His music profile has since built to include over 11 million streams, 346K followers on Instagram and his own YouTube channel is home to over 44 million views, yet it is the release of his forthcoming ‘Only One’ EP, which also features Trillary Banks and Busy Signal, that is set to bridge the gap between Jamaica and the UK.
Taken from ‘Only One’, produced by award-winning British trio The Fanatix, responsible for cuts with the likes of Nicki Minaj, Popcaan, Vybz Kartel, Giggs and Stylo G, the genu-ine Caribbean vibes run to the very roots of ‘Reality’. The track comes as the second up-front slice of the highly anticipated 6-track, released via Saint Music/Parlophone in his first freshly inked deal with a major label, and arouses the heat on the sensuous side to Ver-shon as he divulges his enamour for no-filter, natural beauty. Having previously released the bold and gritty ‘Original’, ‘Reality’ offers an insight in to the lyrical dexterity and musi-cal diversity of Vershon, demonstrating that he’s equally as skilled at hitting out hard bars with a livewire spark as he is at articulating tender moments and emotion.
Featuring a delicate pulsating key synth and serene bird-like calls, the stripped back in-troduction puts a spotlight on to Vershon as he confidently takes the stage, lyrically ca-ressing the track with tangible lyricism before the deep tremble of bass begins to stir. Although raised in London, Chip’s Jamaican roots have always maintained a strong influ-ence over his music and whilst he is a master at skipping rings around any beat and bar-ring with the best, his inclusion on ‘Reality’ highlights the capabilities of the duo and their ability to command an exhilarating record.
“I am grateful to be given the opportunity to show the world different sides of my lyrical versatility. My upcoming EP “Only One”, showcases a little window into my lyrical and musical diversity and I am quietly buzzing to begin this new chapter in my career. I am very anxious to see how my fans and a wider audience will react to the music and diversity, but there’s much more to come – going to need bigger windows lol” – VERSHON
